Job summary

Spinwell Global Limited is recruiting a Legal Officer (Property & Contracts) for a short-term contract in Basildon, with hybrid working and a minimum of three days on site each week.

You'll support the Information and Compliance Manager and the Data Protection Officer, advising on data privacy, reviewing policies and contracts, and maintaining processing activity logs while ensuring compliance with data protection legislation in a public sector setting.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification and knowledge of Data Protection Act and UK GDPR
• Understanding of local and national government legislation
• Excellent IT skills, including SharePoint, Outlook Word and Excel
• Experience working in a local authority environment or data protection functions
• Experience handling public enquiries with high customer service
• Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences
• Team player with collaborative problem-solving approach
• Ability to build relationships with partner organisations

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Information and Compliance Manager and the Data Protection Officer in managing compliance with data protection laws
• Advising on data privacy matters and risk in processing operations
• Reviewing procedures, policies, privacy notices and contracts relating to processing of personal information
• Monitoring compliance with data protection audits
• Maintaining a register of processing activities and data lifecycle compliance
• Establishing, testing and monitoring the data breach response process
• Maintaining a log of data privacy incidents and follow-up actions
• Maintaining a log of complaints and actions taken
• Assisting in development and delivery of staff training on policies and obligations
