Job summary

Barnsley Healthcare Federation in Barnsley is seeking a Data Protection and Governance Manager to lead governance and data protection, advise senior leadership, and oversee external client engagements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the corporate governance and data protection framework.
  • Provide expert advice to Board, Executive Team, senior managers and external clients.
  • Deliver outsourced data protection and governance support, including audits and training.
  • Advise on confidentiality, data sharing and records management.
  • Coordinate data subject rights and data protection impact assessments.
  • Develop and implement governance, data protection and compliance policies.
  • Manage and oversee complaints and incidents, including investigations and responses.
  • Plan governance, data protection and compliance audits.
  • Produce reports, dashboards and trend analyses for senior leaders.
  • Maintain governance registers and assurance processes, including risk and standards.
  • Coordinate Board and committee meetings and action logs.
  • Identify risks and develop action plans with managers and clients.

  • Build relationships with external clients and support consultancy opportunities.

Data Protection and Governance Manager | Barnsley Salary: £35,000-£39,000 per annum, dependent on experience and skills Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday Working arrangements: Office-based, with flexibility around start and finish times between 8:00am and 6:30pm

Are you an experienced governance or data protection professional looking for a varied role where you can influence standards, support organisational improvement and develop trusted relationships with external clients?

We are recruiting on behalf of Barnsley Healthcare Federation for a Data Protection and Governance Manager. This is a broad and influential position covering corporate governance, data protection, complaints, incidents, risk and assurance.

Alongside supporting the Federation, you will help to develop and grow its ARC Management and Consultancy Services. This will involve providing outsourced data protection, governance, compliance, audit and policy support to external organisations.

The role would suit someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent communication, client relationship and organisational skills.

The Role
  • Lead and coordinate the corporate governance and data protection framework.
  • Provide expert advice to the Board, Executive Team, senior managers and external clients.
  • Deliver outsourced data protection and governance support, including audits, compliance reviews, policies, training and improvement plans.
  • Advise on UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, confidentiality, information governance, data sharing and records management.
  • Coordinate data subject rights requests, subject access requests and data protection impact assessments.
  • Develop, review and implement governance, data protection, complaints, incident and confidentiality policies.
  • Manage and oversee complaints and incidents, including investigations, formal responses, escalation, action tracking and learning.
  • Plan and undertake governance, data protection and compliance audits.
  • Produce clear reports, dashboards, trend analysis and recommendations for senior leaders, committees and clients.
  • Maintain governance registers and assurance processes, including risk, declarations of interest and standards of business conduct.
  • Coordinate Board and committee meetings, including agendas, papers, minutes and action logs.
  • Identify governance and data protection risks and support managers and clients with appropriate action plans.
  • Develop and deliver training relating to governance, data protection, complaints, incidents and confidentiality.
  • Build strong relationships with external clients and ensure agreed services are delivered effectively.
  • Support proposals, tenders, scopes of work and the development of new consultancy opportunities.
  • Represent Barnsley Healthcare Federation and ARC at client meetings, professional forums, conferences and networking events.
About You
  • A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in governance, data protection, information governance, compliance, risk or a related area.
  • Relevant experience gained within the NHS, healthcare or another regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, confidentiality and information governance requirements.
  • Experience developing and monitoring governance frameworks, policies, registers and assurance processes.
  • Experience managing or coordinating complaints, incidents, investigations and formal responses.
  • An understanding of risk identification, assessment, mitigation, audit and assurance.
  • Experience producing accurate reports and analysis for senior leaders, committees or Boards.
  • The ability to interpret legislation, regulations, policies and contractual requirements and translate them into practical advice.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including drafting policies, formal responses, audit reports and client documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion and professional judgement.
  • A confident and approachable communication style, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • The ability to travel to other organisational and client locations when required.

Experience of delivering outsourced governance, data protection or consultancy services would be particularly beneficial. A relevant professional qualification in governance, data protection, information governance, risk or compliance would also be advantageous.
