Job summary

Ministry of Justice (Justice Digital, Data and Science) is offering a permanent, hybrid role in the Data Management team. The post focuses on improving data quality, ownership of critical data assets, and embedding governance and metadata frameworks into service operations.

It is a collaborative role alongside policy, digital and analytical colleagues, with hybrid working and part-time or compressed hours available. Candidates must be willing to be assessed for BPSS clearance.

Qualifications

• Practical understanding of data quality, ownership, metadata, master data, governance and lifecycle management in real settings.
• Confidence engaging technical and non-technical colleagues about data issues.
• Adapting approach to changing priorities, emerging risks or new information while keeping overall goals in view.
• Clear, inclusive communication, explaining complex ideas in plain English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver data management activity across a key service area, balancing daily priorities with longer-term improvement.
• Embed proportionate data management into everyday working with operational, policy, digital and analytical colleagues.
• Improve data quality, consistency and trustworthiness through clear standards, guidance and assurance.
• Identify and manage critical data assets, with clear ownership and accountability.
• Support the development and use of data catalogues, metadata and master data frameworks, definitions and data quality approaches, adapted to operational needs.
• Build data governance and risk management into routine processes, escalating issues where appropriate.
• Advocate for good data management and data literacy, building capability across teams.
• Support senior colleagues in setting priorities and planning data management activity across the service portfolio.
