Job summary

BT Group is seeking a Data Governance Lead to define and implement governance frameworks across the business. You will ensure data compliance with GDPR and related regulations, while aligning data management with strategic objectives.

You will lead a team, partner with data owners, and drive transformation initiatives to improve data quality, security, and accessibility in a complex enterprise environment.

Qualifications

• Familiar with Data Governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA).
• Knowledge of data compliance regulations (GDPR/CCPA/EU AI Act).
• Knowledge of data models, lineage and enterprise data platforms.
• Ability to document and visualise data lineage from source to consumption.

About the role

Pan business this role supports and implements the Business data strategy to deliver Business strategic outcomes. The role will also support implementation of an effective model for Business on data governance, data management and data quality.

What you’ll be doing

Data Governance

Lead, develop and implement BT Group data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures ensuring alignment with business objectives and establishing data as an asset that delivers value.

Define, monitor and manage processes for monitoring data governance policies, procedures, and standards related to compliance

Ensure data compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU AI ACT)

Improve data accessibility while maintaining security and compliance e.g. contractual sovereign requirements

Collaborate with key stakeholders across business units to ensure buy-in and sponsorship of data governance initiatives.

Act as a conduit between central governance and delivery units, ensuring consistent application of data governance standards.

Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data governance control processes and platforms.

Provide training and guidance on data governance best practices and tools.

Mentor and coach a team of professionals, fostering growth and maintaining a high-performing team capable of executing the governance strategy.

Data Transformation

Input into shaping the Data transformation program and business owner for the Customer Data Handling Obligation project

Essential Skills / Experience

Familiar with Data Governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA).

Knowledge of applicable regulation and legislation related to data compliance and data security and application within organizations

Knowledge of data models, lineage, and enterprise data platforms.

Data Lineage: Ability to document and visualise data flow from source to consumption

Business Expertise

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Influence across Business functions on data governance topics.

Ability to work collaboratively with Data Owners, Stewards, and business units to resolve data governance issues.

Ability to identify and implement enhancements to data government framework

Understanding of business-critical data domains (e.g. customer, product, finance) and their operational impact.

Translating technical data issues into business relevant language for non-technical audiences
