Job summary

Recruit with Purpose in the West Midlands is hiring a Data Governance Manager to shape how data is governed, trusted and owned across the organisation. You’ll establish a Data Governance Framework, operate with Data Owners and Data Stewards, and drive clearer data quality standards.

You’ll work with business colleagues to translate governance into practice, influence senior stakeholders and drive AI governance as the function matures. Hybrid, with a salary up to £60,000.

Job description

After a year into this role as Data Governance Manager, you’ll be able to look around and see your fingerprints all over how data is managed.

You’ll have introduced Data Owners who genuinely understand what they own, Data Stewards who know what good looks like, clearer standards around Data Quality, and a Data Governance function that you've helped build. Overall, you’ll drive better conversations about data across the organisation.

This West Midlands based Housing Association has created a brand-new Data Governance Manager role to help shape and embed their approach to data governance. You'll be joining at a point where there's a real appetite to improve how data is governed, trusted and owned, but plenty still needs to be shaped.

You’ll get the freedom to look at what's there, work out what good should look like for the business and then help make it happen. You won't be walking into somebody else's finished model.

That means developing and embedding the Data Governance Framework and Operating Model, establishing Data Owner and Data Steward communities, improving Data Quality and creating much clearer accountability for data across the business. It won’t be just about frameworks, but also about engaging across the business to get people to buy into data.

You'll spend a lot of your time working with people outside of the Data team, helping them understand why the quality of their data matters, what they're responsible for and how better data ultimately helps them make better decisions. You'll become the person people turn to when they need help making sense of Data Governance, while also having the credibility to challenge senior stakeholders when ownership isn't happening.

You'll also have technical scope to help shape the approach to metadata, data catalogue, Master Data, Data Quality and governance across modern cloud platforms, while working alongside the wider Data & Analytics capability. As the role develops, you’ll head up AI governance too.

As Data Governance Manager, you'll take the lead on:

• Building and embedding the Data Governance Framework and Operating Model.
• Making Data Ownership and Stewardship work in practice.
• Creating Data Governance forums and communities.
• Developing meaningful Data Quality measures and tackling the root causes behind poor-quality data.
• Improving metadata, data cataloguing and the business glossary.
• Developing governance policies, standards and controls.
• Building Data Literacy and helping the organisation become more confident with data.
• Helping establish sensible governance around AI and emerging technologies.

You would be an excellent fit as Data Governance Manager if you have:

• Been responsible for developing or implementing a Data Governance Framework
• With practical experience across areas such as Data Ownership, Stewardship, Data Quality, metadata or data cataloguing.
• Evidence of turning Data Governance theory into something that actually works for the organisation.
• Experience around Azure, Microsoft Fabric, BI or modern data platforms would be useful.

This is a West Midlands based hybrid role with the expectation to ideally be in the office once a week.

The salary on offer is £55,000 to £60,000 with some flexibility for excellent relevant experience.
