Job summary

VIQU IT is seeking a Data Engineering Lead for a 3-month hybrid role in Cambridge. The role focuses on hands-on technical leadership with Microsoft Fabric, ensuring robust data pipelines and governance, and a smooth path to production.

The ideal candidate brings strong Fabric expertise, SQL, and data modelling skills, plus experience guiding engineering teams and enforcing standards. 3 days onsite per week; Inside IR35; daily rate £500–£600.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience including Lakehouse architecture and production pipelines.
• Experience as Data Engineering Lead or Technical Lead providing oversight to engineering teams.
• Strong SQL, data modelling, and data integration across multiple enterprise sources.
• Experience with development lifecycle management, testing and production deployment.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, documentation and data governance practices.
• Ability to review technical solutions and guide other developers.
• Exposure to Power BI and ERP environments would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership across an existing Microsoft Fabric data engineering environment.
• Review, troubleshoot and optimise Fabric Lakehouse solutions, data pipelines, transformations and associated engineering processes.
• Oversee data integration, transformation, modelling and quality across multiple data sources.
• Improve development, testing and deployment processes, ensuring solutions can be reliably transitioned into production.
• Review and challenge technical work delivered by internal and offshore engineering resources.
• Establish consistent standards around documentation, data governance and engineering best practices.
• Identify and resolve technical issues affecting the reliability and performance of existing data solutions.
