Job summary

Tenth Revolution Group is seeking a Lead Data Engineer in Newcastle (Hybrid) to drive a major data transformation. You will lead the migration from on-premise data platforms to a modern Databricks-based architecture, shaping the future of the company’s data capabilities.

You will design, build and optimise scalable data solutions while providing technical leadership to engineers and analysts, working with stakeholders across the business to deliver high-quality data products that drive insight

Qualifications

• Experience leading data engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers.
• Hands-on Databricks experience and data lakehouse familiarity.
• Proven track record delivering cloud-based data platform migrations.
• Strong SQL skills and data modeling experience.
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Knowledge of Azure data services is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

Lead Data Engineer

Location: Newcastle (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £80,000 + Benefits

Lead Data Engineer role joining a growing organisation embarking on a major data transformation programme. This role offers the chance to lead the migration from legacy on-premise data platforms to a modern Databricks-based architecture, helping to shape the future of the company's data capabilities.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building and optimising scalable data solutions while providing technical leadership to a team of engineers and analyst. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver high-quality data products that drive insight and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of data platforms from on-premise environments to Databricks


• Design and develop scalable data pipelines and data integration solutions


• Drive best practices across data engineering, architecture and governance


• Mentor and support data engineers/analysts within the team


• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions


• Improve platform performance, reliability and scalability


• Contribute to the long-term data strategy and roadmap

Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in Data Engineering roles, including leadership or mentoring responsibilities


• Hands-on experience with Databricks


• Experience delivering cloud-based data platforms and migration projects


• Strong SQL


• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines


• Knowledge of Azure data technologies would be advantageous


• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
