Job summary

Artis Recruitment is seeking a Data Engineering Lead for a leading Professional Services organisation in Bristol. The role combines hands-on data engineering with team leadership to modernise the data platform and Databricks environment.

You will mentor engineers, design scalable data pipelines, collaborate with BI and data science teams, and help drive cloud adoption while operating in a hybrid model (3 days on-site).

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading and developing Data Engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Excellent SQL and Python skills.
  • Extensive experience with Databricks, Spark and lakehouse architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering, data modelling and architecture best practice.
  • Experience delivering data solutions for reporting, analytics and data science.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to balance strategic technical leadership with hands-on delivery.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Responsibilities

Data Engineer required by leading Professional Services organisation in Bristol

Salary: Up to £85,000 + 10% Bonus. Location: Bristol - Hybrid (3 days onsite)

A leading Professional Services organisation is looking for an experienced Data Engineering Lead to play a key role in the continued development and transformation of its data capability.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Data Engineering professional who enjoys combining hands-on engineering with team leadership. You will lead a talented team of Data Engineers, provide technical direction and coaching, and remain actively involved in solving complex data challenges.

The organisation is investing heavily in its data estate, and you will play a key role in the modernisation of its cloud-based data platform, including the continued development of its Databricks environment.

The Role
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Data Engineers.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve data platforms, tooling and engineering practices.
About You

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering professional with a strong technical background and proven experience leading engineering teams within a complex environment.

  • Proven experience leading and developing Data Engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Excellent SQL and Python skills.
  • Extensive experience with Databricks, Spark and lakehouse architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of data engineering, data modelling and architecture best practice.
  • Experience delivering data solutions for reporting, analytics and data science.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to balance strategic technical leadership with hands-on delivery.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Experience of large-scale technology transformation, data migration, platform modernisation or wider business change would also be beneficial.

Exposure to technologies such as Tableau or low-code integration platforms would be advantageous but is not essential.
