Job summary

Harnham is seeking a Data Engineer to join a purpose-driven UK organisation. You will design, develop and maintain scalable data solutions across the Azure data platform, delivering end-to-end pipelines from ingestion to reporting-ready datasets.

You'll work with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Databricks, applying advanced SQL and Python to build robust data models, data governance, and security controls within an Agile delivery environment near Birmingham.

Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for a Data Engineer to join a purpose-driven organisation where data plays a key role in improving services and supporting business decisions. The Role

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data solutions across their Azure data platform.

Responsibilities include:
  • Designing and delivering end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines from data ingestion through to reporting-ready datasets
  • Building and optimising data models, SQL transformations, and workflows to improve performance and reliability
  • Managing data quality monitoring, alerting, and issue resolution processes
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Enhancing and maintaining the Azure data platform across Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Synapse Analytics
  • Implementing security, governance, and compliance controls across data solutions
  • Contributing to Agile delivery processes and working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Producing clear technical documentation and supporting knowledge sharing across the team
Your Skills & Experience
  • Strong commercial experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines in production environments
  • Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses and Dataflows Gen2
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data technologies, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Advanced SQL skills covering data modelling, transformation, and performance optimisation
  • Experience using Python for scripting, automation, and data processing
  • Understanding of Git, CI/CD practices, and Agile delivery methodologies
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and compliance standards
  • Ability to manage technical delivery independently and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, and workflow orchestration
  • dbt for modular and tested data modelling
  • Experience working within a regulated environment
