Job summary

Travelers is seeking an experienced Casualty underwriting expert to join our Underwriting Office as a Technical Underwriting Specialist. You will shape strategies, analyse portfolios using BI data, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.

You will own underwriting guides, train underwriters, handle referrals, and support projects. A strong casualty background and interest in AI are preferred, with hybrid work arrangements of three days in office and two at home.

Qualifications

• Degree education and ACII qualification required.
• Proven underwriting experience and ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
• Strong knowledge of local insurance marketplace.
• Advanced knowledge of casualty underwriting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Advanced interpersonal, verbal and written communication.
• Ability to translate vision into action plans and lead projects.
• Proven leadership and influencing skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• CPCU, ARM or related designation or working towards designation.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to underwriting strategies reflecting market conditions and BI appetite.
• Analyse portfolios using MI/BI data and multiple sources to derive recommendations.
• Identify trends by monitoring key performance metrics and portfolio components.
• Explain portfolio changes and pricing strategy with data narratives for treaty reinsurance and regulatory returns.
• Develop underwriting guidance with Product Development and portfolio teams.
• Monitor regulatory environments and industry trends to adjust strategies.
• Assist in reviewing policy wordings and product guidance with UW Officers.
• Maintain up-to-date underwriting guidelines and repository of guidance.
• Participate in reviews and training delivery to Underwriters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
