Job summary

ONNEC Group in the UK is hiring a Data Centre Facilities Engineer to support a prestigious banking client across multiple data centre sites. This highly visible role focuses on maintaining data centre standards, managing infrastructure changes, capacity planning and ensuring critical facilities run safely and efficiently.

You will join an established team handling white space, asset control, infrastructure moves and governance, with regular travel and occasional out-of-hours work required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Data Centre environment.
• Experience in banking or critical environments.
• Strong understanding of change management and service delivery.
• Experience deploying IT hardware and infrastructure moves.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards and copper/fibre.
• Experience with asset management, ticketing and workflows.
• MS Office skills including Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Organised and detail-oriented with good prioritisation.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• CDCTP or CDCMP certifications and IT qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Manage data centre white space and coordinate equipment moves.
• Maintain rack, space, power and asset records using DCIM tools such as Nlyte.
• Support data hall planning including power, cooling and capacity planning.
• Coordinate hardware installations with internal teams and third-party vendors.
• Monitor incidents and risks, escalating as required.
• Conduct regular data centre audits and compliance reviews.
• Manage asset inventories and decommissioning activities.
• Review data centre access requests through ServiceNow.
• Perform regular inspections for health, safety and housekeeping.
• Provide emergency support and callout cover as needed.
• Drive continuous improvement with ONNEC and client stakeholders.

We are recruiting for a Data Centre Facilities Engineer to support a prestigiousbanking client across its UK data centre sites. This is a highly visible operational role responsible for maintaining data centre standards, managing infrastructure changes, supporting capacity planning, and ensuring critical facilities run efficiently and safely.

Working closely with the client's Facilities Operations team, you will play a key role in day-to-day data centre operations, supporting BAU activities while contributing to service improvements, compliance, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will join an established team responsible for managing white space, capacity, asset control, infrastructure moves, and data centre governance across multiple critical sites.

This role supports multiple customer sites and will require regular travel between data centre locations across the UK. Flexibility is essential, including participation in callout rotas, weekend activities and occasional out-of-hours support requirements.

What you'll be doing as our Data Centre Facilities Engineer:

• Manage data centre white space and coordinate all equipment moves, adds and changes.
• Maintain accurate rack, space, power and asset records using DCIM tools such as Nlyte.
• Support data hall planning including power, cooling and capacity management.
• Coordinate hardware installations with internal teams and third-party vendors.
• Monitor incidents, risks and operational issues, escalating where required.
• Conduct regular data centre audits, quality checks and compliance reviews.
• Manage asset inventories, equipment placement and decommissioning activities.
• Support disk destruction and secure disposal processes.
• Review and approve data centre access requests through ServiceNow.
• Perform regular data centre inspections to identify health & safety, housekeeping or operational concerns.
• Support application administration activities, including upgrades, testing and user support.
• Assist with troubleshooting and technical problem resolution.
• Participate in weekend works, maintenance activities and planned shutdowns when required.
• Provide emergency support and callout cover as part of an extended support rota.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives alongside ONNEC and client stakeholders.

What we're looking for in our Data Centre Facilities Engineer:

• Relevant experience working within a Data Centre environment.
• Previous experience supporting Data Centre operations within a banking or critical environment.
• Strong understanding of change management and service delivery processes.
• Experience managing IT hardware deployments and infrastructure moves.
• Knowledge of structured cabling standards, copper and fibre infrastructure.
• Experience using asset management, ticketing and workflow management systems.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider operational team.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
• CDCTP or CDCMP certifications.
• Information Technology related qualifications.
