Job summary

The University of Manchester is seeking a Data and Analytics Administrator to support statutory, strategic and operational reporting. You will work with Power BI, Oracle reporting tools and in-house systems to analyse and present data-driven insights to business stakeholders.

You will develop, maintain and monitor a suite of reports for HESA, OfS and ONS returns, collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements and continuously improve data quality and reporting processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience using data analytics and reporting tools to manipulate, analyse and interpret data for BI outputs.
  • Experience using Power BI and/or Oracle reporting tools to develop and maintain reports meeting stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication to engage a wide range of stakeholders with varying data literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and monitor reports supporting statutory, strategic and operational requirements (HESA, OfS, ONS).
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to translate requirements into reporting/analytics solutions.
  • Collaborate with University teams to identify data quality issues and resolve them.
  • Support HESA Staff Return processes ensuring timely, accurate data submissions.
  • Act as first point of contact for reporting escalations and route complex issues appropriately.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Data and Analytics Administrator. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of the University’s statutory, strategic and operational reporting requirements within a dynamic and inclusive People Services environment. Working with Power BI, Oracle reporting tools and other in-house systems, you will help analyse, interpret and present data-driven insights to business stakeholders.

You will be responsible for:
  • Develop, maintain and monitor a range of reports to support statutory, strategic and operational reporting requirements, including HESA, Office for Students (OfS) and Office for National Statistics (ONS) returns and related data requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate stakeholder engagement to understand business requirements, translate them into effective reporting and analytics solutions, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and better-informed decision making.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the University to identify, investigate and resolve data quality issues, liaising with wider business teams and IT colleagues where appropriate.
  • Support colleagues with processes and activities relating to the HESA Staff Return, ensuring data is accurate, complete and submitted within required deadlines.
  • Act as a first point of contact for incoming reporting and data escalations, assessing and prioritising issues, troubleshooting root causes, resolving problems where possible and appropriately escalating or routing more complex issues.

Essential Criteria:
  • Experience of using data analytics and reporting tools to manipulate, analyse and interpret data across systems and applications to produce business intelligence, Management Information and actionable insights.
  • Experience of using Power BI and/or Oracle reporting tools, with the ability to develop and maintain reports that meet business and stakeholder requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders with varying levels of data literacy and technical understanding.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality documentation and reporting outputs.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of data protection principles and their application within the workplace, including the appropriate handling of personal and sensitive information.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience of working within the Higher Education sector is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of operational business processes within Human Resources, Payroll and Pensions administration.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous improvement, learning and professional development, with an ability to identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and services.
