Job summary

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity available for a motivated and experienced Data Analytics Engineer to join us as key members of the Digital, Data and Technology team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, 12-Month Fixed Term Contract.

As a Data Analytics Engineer you will work as part of the Data Team, which has responsibility for providing organisation wide solutions to data in particular, but not exclusively, targeted at the organisation's key strategic focuses:

  • Housing
  • Prevention
  • Community Safety
  • Adults Social Care
  • Children's Service
This is a technical data engineering role; your day-to-day work will involve supporting the delivery of the Business Intelligence Programme with a focus on the effective and efficient development of data products, primarily using Azure, for services across the organisation.

At its core, the purpose of this role is to enhance the Council's data capability so that it can meet the increasing complex challenges in local government. Meeting the needs of our residents, putting them at the heart of what we do, equipping officers and the leadership of the Council with the data they need to make evidence-based decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver data projects within the Business Intelligence Programme, driving the shift towards automated, live reporting.
  • Engage with and support services, building solutions flexibly and creatively using agile methodologies.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver project objectives and contribute to strategic priorities.
  • Provide specialist advice and input to corporate projects and programmes.
  • Support the development of other data team members and officers, actively sharing technical knowledge and promoting data-driven decision-making.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive culture that supports a strong, efficient, and effective performance culture with a focus on service excellence and customer satisfaction and encourages continuous improvement, in which staff from all sectors can contribute towards system and business process changes.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Educated to degree level in a related subject matter (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Science) OR minimum 3-5 years of relevant professional experience
  • SQL skills (prefereably advanced level)
  • Experience of using PowerBI or similar software tools for data insight, reporting or performance management
  • Working with stakeholders to elicit business report requirements and giving expert advice to support and guide managers to ensure a fit for purpose solution to meet their needs
