The Opportunity

A growing, technology-focused organisation operating within the water and wastewater sector is looking to appoint a Data Analyst / Wastewater Modeller to join its technical team.

The business develops innovative, data-driven solutions that help wastewater organisations identify potential issues within sewer networks, improve operational decision-making and support environmental performance.

The role sits within a New Product Development team and combines wastewater hydraulic modelling, data analysis and emerging data-driven technologies. It would suit a Project Engineer, Project Scientist, Urban Drainage Modeller, Wastewater Modeller, Hydraulic Modeller or similar professional who is looking to build on their existing modelling experience while developing their skills in Python and data analytics.

You’ll work within a collaborative, cross-functional environment, taking ownership of projects and working alongside technical and development teams to deliver solutions for customers.

About the Role

This is a pragmatic, delivery-focused position involving the use of data, analytics and hydraulic modelling to develop solutions for customers within the wastewater sector.

The role will involve:

  • Developing an understanding of the company’s technology and data-driven solutions.
  • Supporting the scoping and delivery of customer projects.
  • Analysing, interpreting and visualising wastewater and environmental data.
  • Running hydraulic modelling simulations using InfoWorks ICM, SWMM or similar software.
  • Working alongside software and product development teams to improve existing tools and functionality.
  • Taking ownership of individual projects and delivering work within agreed timescales.
  • Working with customers to understand project requirements and communicate findings.
  • Applying industry knowledge and best practice to help develop effective technical solutions.
  • Contributing to the development of new data-driven approaches within the wastewater sector.

The work produced will support wastewater organisations in identifying network issues, reducing environmental impacts and informing future investment decisions.

Essential Criteria
  • A relevant third-level qualification.
  • 2+ years’ experience working with InfoWorks ICM, SWMM or similar hydraulic modelling software.
  • Experience using QGIS or similar GIS software.
  • Experience with data exploration and visualisation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to review work and provide constructive feedback to colleagues.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset.
  • Curiosity and willingness to develop new technical skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant Master’s or PhD qualification.
  • Experience using Python, particularly libraries such as Pandas and GeoPandas.
  • Experience with scripting or automation within hydraulic modelling software.
  • Experience of software engineering, data science or analytics within the wastewater sector.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as AWS.
  • Experience working within an Agile delivery environment.
  • Experience working with water company clients or engineering contractors.
  • Experience of hydraulic model build and verification, including flow survey scoping and management.
  • Experience developing options to reduce flooding, spills or other wastewater network issues.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with product development and engineering teams to deliver customer projects.
  • Take ownership of individual projects, managing priorities, timescales and delivery requirements.
  • Engage with customers to understand project requirements and communicate technical findings.
  • Analyse and interpret data to develop practical solutions.
  • Support the integration of project outputs into wider technical solutions.
  • Identify potential bugs, improvements and changes and communicate these to the wider engineering team.
  • Contribute ideas and technical knowledge to the continued development of the organisation’s products and services.
Benefits
  • Private medical insurance, including dental and optical cover.
  • Company pension scheme with 5% employer contribution and 5% employee contribution.
  • 24 days’ annual leave pro rata, plus 1 day birthday leave and statutory holidays.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Additional employee benefits covering areas such as electric vehicles, cycling, technology and home working.

Why This Opportunity?
