Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in the UK is seeking Wastewater Hydraulic Modellers to join our UK Water team. You will develop computer models to investigate water network issues, analyze data, and support engineering solutions for asset investment decisions.

This role offers a hybrid working model with opportunities to supervise staff, contribute to technical innovation, and engage with clients, contractors and stakeholders across the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience with urban drainage modelling and hydroflow analysis.
• Familiarity with InfoWorks ICM and GIS tools is preferred.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

Our collaborative and multi‑disciplinary team is one of the largest in the UK, providing water and wastewater infrastructure services alongside drainage design, SuDS and surface‑water management. We serve a wide variety of clients across the UK and internationally, including water companies, local authorities, highways/rail authorities and developers. It is an exciting time to be working for our UK Water business with unprecedented investment in the water industry. We seek to recruit Wastewater Hydraulic Modellers across UK offices to support our service delivery.

Your role

• Development of computer models to investigate water network issues, investment needs and generation of outline solutions.
• Analysis of data.
• Supporting the development of engineering solutions and advising clients to help them make better asset investment decisions.
• Support development of reports and other project deliverables.
• Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments.
• Support in the development of tender responses and fee estimates at higher grades.
• Supervise and develop staff, providing guidance to support their professional development at higher grades.
• Contribute towards technical innovation.

About You

Experience or awareness of urban drainage modelling within InfoWorks ICM (or CS), GIS packages such as ArcGIS or MapInfo, and civil engineering would be advantageous but not essential. Full on‑the‑job training will be provided where required. The role involves feasibility studies, computer analysis to support flooding and environmental improvement projects, site visits and liaison with clients, contractors, stakeholders and other professional bodies. The output will typically be short reports outlining the approach taken and findings from the investigation.

Desirable Requirements

• Understanding of the UK Water Industry and regulatory issues.
• Experience in wastewater modelling and distribution networks.
• Building and calibrating network models.
• Using network models for planning, operational and solution development purposes.
• Experience with InfoWorks ICM (or CS) and other modelling software.

Senior Roles Requirements

• Expertise using InfoWorks ICM and ICM Exchange.
• Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects.
• Ability to check the work of others to provide quality assurance and drive continuous improvement in work delivered to the client.
• Implementation of industry leading solutions and development of innovative solutions.
• Management and technical supervision of a team of wastewater modellers.
• Supervision of report writing and checking and review of outputs.

Desirable Qualifications

• BSc/BEng/MEng degree level in geography, GIS, science, engineering related subject or equivalent considered with appropriate professional qualifications at the senior levels.
• Technician roles require HNC or HND level qualification in similar subjects. Opportunities to work towards qualifications will be available for successful candidates.
