Job summary

Pertemps Crawley is seeking a Cylinder Operative to join the safety-forward warehouse team in Crawley. You will safely load, unload and store gas cylinders, inspect units, and operate filling equipment to meet quality guidelines.

This role offers a two-week rotating schedule and a pay rate of £15.80 per hour, with opportunities for overtime and weekend premium allowances; forklift training is provided if you don't already hold the licence.

Qualifications

• Forklift (FLT) licence preferable but not essential; company provides on-the-job forklift training.
• Good communication, strong self-motivation, digital literacy to operate tracking/filling software, and a safety-conscious mindset.

Responsibilities

• Sort, handle and store gas cylinders safely onto pallets, pens or vehicles.
• Inspect cylinders before and after filling for defects or leaks and set aside for maintenance.
• Operate filling machinery to fill cylinders according to quality guidelines and timing.
• Carry out daily pre-use inspections on equipment such as trolleys and forklift trucks for safety audits.

Job Overview & Key Responsibilities

As a Cylinder Operative, your daily routine operates in a safety-first warehouse environment where handling high-pressure vessels requires extreme attention to detail.

• Sorting & Handling: Safely loading, unloading, and storing gas cylinders into correct pallets, pens, or vehicles.
• Inspection & Quality Control: Checking cylinders before and after the filling process to spot sub-standard, leaking, or defective units, and separating them for maintenance.
• Gas Cylinder Filling: Operating filling machinery to fill cylinders efficiently according to strict quality guidelines and standard time frames.
• Documentation & Safety Audits: Carrying out mandatory daily pre-use inspection checks on moving equipment like trolleys and forklift trucks.

Shift Patterns & Compensation

Pay Rate: £15.80 per hour.

Hours: 42 hours per week.

Shift Rotation: Typically a two-week alternating schedule:

• Week 1: Monday to Friday, 05:45am - 2:00pm
• Week 2: Monday to Friday, 1:45pm - 10:00pm

Candidate Requirements

• Experience & Licences: A forklift (FLT) licence is preferable but not essential; the company is happy to provide full on-the-job forklift training for the right candidate.

• Hiring Prerequisites: Because of the hazardous nature of handling compressed gases, you must pass a face-to-face interview, a criminal record check, and a drug and alcohol/medical assessment before starting.
