Job summary

John Lewis Partnership is seeking a Technician Specialist to join a 2-person delivery crew, installing products at customers’ homes, including furniture, appliances and TVs, using a 7.5-tonne vehicle. You’ll coach fellow drivers and model the high standard of service John Lewis is known for.

This 4-day week rota includes varying shifts; applicants must be 18+, with heavy lifting and a focus on safety and customer care.

Qualifications

• Manual C1 UK driving licence required with max 6 points.
• DCPC (Driver CPC) or Drivers Qualification Card by day one and Tachograph Card.
• Previous experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
• Experience in a customer-facing role.
• Strong verbal communication and good tech understanding.

Responsibilities

• Be an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with top customer service as priority.
• Coach and develop delivery driver colleagues and share knowledge.
• Assist with loading the lorry alongside the warehouse team.
• Respect customers' homes; handle situations with care and find best solutions.
• Install products efficiently and demonstrate usage after installation.
• Stay up-to-date with new products and technologies; maintain safety standards.

About The Role

As one of our Technician Specialists, you'll have the unique opportunity of bringing our distinctive John Lewis service right to our customers' doors and installing the products they love into their homes (such as furniture, kitchen appliances, sound systems and TV sets) as part of a 2-person delivery crew driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle. You'll also share your specialised knowledge to coach and develop the other delivery drivers in your team on home installations and general customer service skills, acting as a role model for the great service John Lewis is known for.

Due to its nature, you need to be 18 years or older to work in this role.

Schedule Pattern: 4 days per week, 5 week rota.

Rota 1: Monday-Saturday 06:00-17:00

Rota 2: Monday-Friday 10:00-21:00, Saturday 07:00-18:00.

Salary up to : £39,654.58 deepending on experience

Key Responsibilities

Your day will see you start at the delivery hub where you are based before heading out on a route. Your responsibilities will include:

• Being an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service as your number one priority.
• Coach, develop and assess your delivery driver colleagues and give them the knowledge they need to perform at their best and represent our brand.
• Helping load up your lorry with the day's deliveries working alongside the warehouse team.
• Demonstrating great respect and courtesy for the customer's home and handling unexpected situations to find the best possible solution for your customers.
• Installing products efficiently and quickly for our customers and demonstrating how they work once installed.
• Keeping up to date with new products and technologies to help you perform your role at your best.
• Maintaining a safe working environment.

Please note this role involves heavy lifting: You will spend a lot of time delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds, and mattresses.

Essential skills/experience you'll need

• Manual C1 UK driving licence (with a maximum of 6 points).
• DCPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) or Drivers Qualification Card by the first day in the role and Tachograph Card.
• Previous experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle.
• Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
• Great verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
• Good understanding of technology.

Desirable skills/experience you can bring

• Experience in-home delivery and installation of electrical and furniture products
• Installation and disconnection of white goods.
• Experience with electrical installations (including integrated appliances) and TV Wall mounts.
• Able to evidence the skills, knowledge and ability to complete the replacement of domestic light liftings, accessories and cooking appliances
• Assembly of a flat pack.
