Job summary

The Aylesbury Vale Academy in England is seeking a highly ambitious Curriculum Leader (Maternity Cover) for the Religious Studies department. You will lead curriculum development, support colleagues, and drive high standards of attainment.

We expect extensive RS teaching across KS3–KS5, with leadership or Head of Department experience welcomed. You will work with a collaborative team to deliver an ambitious, wellbeing‑minded curriculum and ensure safeguarding.

We are seeking a highly ambitious, committed and dynamic professional to join our Religious Studies department as a Curriculum Leader (Maternity Cover). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and passionate Religious Studies teacher, potentially someone with previous Head of Department experience who is ready to make a significant impact in a key curriculum area.

The successful candidate will:-

• Model outstanding classroom practice, inspiring students and colleagues alike.
• Drive high standards of attainment, progress and outcomes for all learners.
• Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that build on prior knowledge and meet individual needs.
• Mentor and support colleagues, sharing expertise to raise the quality of teaching across the department.
• Promote reflective practice and adapt teaching to meet emerging needs.
• Have extensive experience teaching Religious Studies at KS3, KS4 and KS5.

The Religious Studies department comprises of three qualified teachers. We work collaboratively to provide a broad, ambitious and unique curriculum to all learners. A priority to all in our team is wellbeing, job satisfaction and the all-important balance of home life and work.

Religious Studies offers a broad and ambitious curriculum that empowers teachers to tailor their learning to their students' academic, social and emotional needs. In KS3, students study some of the major world religions like Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism. In KS3, we also look at enquiry topics like 'what makes a place sacred' where there is room for lots of group, independent and creative work.

KS4 students study both Short and Full Course Religious Studies. In Short Course, we explore Christianity and Buddhism, all students at KS4 study this. They further explore themes of Relationships and Family and War and Peace. Some students opt to take GCSE Full Course, the curriculum studies Christianity and Islam, this is taught in separate lessons. We utilise a wide range of teaching and revision strategies and the department achieves highly successful results. With students picking their Options in Year 9, the 3-year KS4 allows plenty of time for content coverage and deep revision.
