Job summary

Zachary Daniels, a fast-growing, digitally led ecommerce business in the North West, is seeking its first Chief Technology Officer. You will own the full technology function, shaping the strategy and architecture for scalable, customer-first digital experiences.

Reporting to the CEO, this hybrid role combines strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of platform, data, infra, and engineering, including AI-driven personalisation and performance driving initiatives.

Qualifications

• Senior technology leadership experience in ecommerce or digital retail.
• Proven track record scaling platforms and teams during rapid growth.
• Hands-on credibility with modern ecommerce architectures (Shopify Plus, SFCC, Magento/Adobe Commerce) and cloud platforms.
• Commercially minded leader focused on revenue, conversion and customer outcomes.
• Experience managing agencies and vendors alongside internal teams.
• Ability to operate at board level while retaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Set and deliver technology strategy aligned to the commercial roadmap, including international growth, new channels and margin improvement.
• Lead, build and inspire a high-performing engineering, product and data team.
• Own the ecommerce platform and wider tech stack, making build/buy/re-platform decisions.
• Drive conversion, site performance and customer experience through data, experimentation and personalisation.
• Embed AI and automation across customer journey and back-office operations.
• Ensure security, resilience and scalability, especially during peak trading.

Zachary Daniels is partnering with a fast-growing, digitally led ecommerce business in the North West to appoint its first Chief Technology Officer. This is a pivotal hire, joining the senior leadership team to shape the technology vision that will drive the next stage of growth.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, you'll own the full technology function: platform, data, infrastructure and engineering. You'll turn commercial ambition into a scalable, customer-first digital experience.

What You'll Be Doing

• Setting and delivering a technology strategy aligned to the commercial roadmap, including international growth, new channels and margin improvement
• Leading, building and inspiring a high-performing engineering, product and data team, blending in-house talent with trusted partners
• Owning the ecommerce platform and wider tech stack, making the build/buy/re-platform calls that matter
• Driving conversion, site performance and customer experience through data, experimentation and personalisation
• Embedding AI and automation across the customer journey and back-office operations, from merchandising to fulfilment
• Ensuring security, resilience and scalability, especially during peak trading
• Acting as a trusted adviser to the board, translating technical complexity into clear commercial decisions

What We're Looking For

• Senior technology leadership experience (CTO, Head of Technology, or Director of Engineering) within ecommerce, D2C or digital retail
• A track record of scaling platforms and teams through periods of rapid growth
• Hands‑On credibility across modern ecommerce architecture, such as Shopify Plus, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Magento/Adobe Commerce or headless/composable setups, plus cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• A commercially minded leader who measures success in revenue, conversion and customer outcomes, not just delivery
• Experience managing third-party agencies and vendors alongside internal teams
• The ability to operate at board level while staying close enough to the detail to make the right calls
