Overview

CT Lead Radiographer — 37.5 hours per week. Permanent. Salary: £47,810 - £54,710 per annum. Closing Date: 18 September 2025. Interview Date: TBC. This post may close early due to high numbers of applications.

Role and Responsibilities

You will be leading a team of highly skilled individuals who deliver a 24/7 service across 3 CT scanners and will manage the replacement of 2 scanners in 2026. As CT Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of our CT services, working closely with Radiologists, Radiographers and multidisciplinary teams. This role combines hands-on clinical expertise with leadership and service development.

  • Maintain a high quality, smooth running, and cost-effective CT service
  • Ensure maintenance contracts for CT are in place and services are performed
  • Oversee the safe and efficient use of expensive and complex radiology equipment
  • Lead and support the CT Radiographers and Radiography Department Assistants providing 24/7 radiology services
  • Collaborate with Radiologists to review developments in CT and implement evidence-based practice
  • Ensure patient and staff protection against radiation and other hazards in line with IR(ME)R 2017 and related policies
  • Ensure requests are justified to minimise unnecessary ionising radiation exposure
  • Report incidents and foster learning from incidents; communicate with Radiation Protection Supervisors as required
  • Conduct a wide range of CT examinations including highly specialist techniques
  • Monitor and evaluate the CT service and implement improvements
  • Liaise with Consultants and Trust staff for safe, efficient scanning
  • Write, review and update standard operating procedures and policies in partnership with CT Lead Radiologist and Governance Lead
  • Participate in out-of-hours service as required
  • Lead CT staff recruitment, retention, and appraisal; provide training and development for all CT staff
  • Manage staff capability, absence, and disciplinary matters; ensure compliance with Trust policies
  • Initiate complaints/incidents procedures and ensure sharing of lessons learned
  • Respond to enquiries from medical staff, GPs and other health professionals
  • Promote safety, quality assurance, confidentiality and continuous professional development
  • Support research, audits and service improvement activities in CT
  • Promote equality, diversity and rights in the workplace

Qualifications and Experience

Clinical Knowledge — Essential: 3 years experience; Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in CT.

Communication — Essential: Evidence of ability to articulate clearly; Desirable: Well-written application; Evidence of CPD.

Teamwork — Essential: Able to give examples of collaborative working; Desirable: Experience in MDT.

Leadership — Essential: Previous history of leading a team; Desirable: Lead modality experience.
