Job summary

North Tees & Hartlepool Solutions is recruiting a CSSD Technician to join the Sterile Services Department at University Hospital North Tees and Hartlepool. You will decontaminate, test, and label reusable devices, including endoscopes, in line with ISO policies and quality systems.

The role involves full-time hours (37.5) with shift work including weekends, and a comprehensive benefits package including a bonus scheme and generous leave. Training towards Sterile Services is provided.

Qualifications

  • Willing to work towards building knowledge in Sterile Services.
  • Experience in Sterile Services / Decontamination.
  • Transferable experience in communications, production/factory environments or engineering.
  • Experience within Sterile Services or Endoscopy; NHS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receipt, sorting and preparing reusable medical devices for cleaning and disinfection.
  • Inspection, re-assembly, function testing, packaging, sealing and labelling.
  • Carry out independent checking of instrument trays for accuracy.
  • Maintain awareness of instruments and flexible scopes and inspection points.
  • Work within ISO policies and department quality system.
  • Adhere to endoscope decontamination procedures.

Job overview

Working as part of a team you will be involved in the complete decontamination and sterilisation process for reusable instruments and medical devices including endoscopes, following the ISO accredited policies, procedures and work instructions within the department’s quality system.

Main duties of the job

As a CSSD Technician you will play a key role in delivering all decontamination related duties based within the Sterile Services Department at both University Hospital North Tees and University Hospital Hartlepool Endoscope Decontamination Units.

The post holder will work in line with the departmental work instructions, whilst adhering to the ISO accredited policies and procedures in all aspects of the Sterile Services Department and flexible endoscope decontamination.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Receipt, sorting and preparing of reusable medical devices including endoscopes for cleaning and disinfection.

Inspection, re-assembly, function testing, packaging, sealing and labelling of reusable medical devices that have been satisfactorily washed, disinfected and dried.

Carry out required independent checking of instrument trays (for others) ensuring the contents are correct and reporting any discrepancies.

Maintaining an awareness of the basic types and categories of instruments, flexible scopes according to their function and identify the points for inspection and test procedures.
