Job summary

Saga Cruises seeks an experienced Assistant Electrician to join the Spirit of Discovery on a shipboard assignment. Embarkation is 06 November 2026, with a contract of 5 months +/- 1 month.

Work within the Engine department performing maintenance, repairs and commissioning of electrical systems. The role requires STCW 95, CoC A-III/7, strong English, and a professional attitude aboard an international crew.

Qualifications

• Valid STCW 95 certification.
• Valid CoC A-III/7.
• Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
• Solid understanding of all electrical equipment onboard.
• Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
• Physically and medically fit.
• Moral integrity is required.
• Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses are appreciated.
• Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings and manuals.
• Alaska experience is a plus.
• Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience is recommended.

Responsibilities

• Repair lights and power outlets across the ship; minor repairs of shipboard appliances.
• Proactively communicates stock and inventory of spare parts to Chief Electrician and 1st Electrician.
• Develop onboard operational plans in line with safety and technical specs; coordinate with Hotel Department.
• Report completed maintenance to the Chief Electrician for the planned maintenance system.
• Maintain safe electrical systems per policies and regulations; assist with motor overhauls.
• Keep Chief Electrician informed with daily progress and priorities.
• Complete log books and documentation; ensure compliance with standards.
• Enforce grooming standards; conduct themselves professionally.
• All other duties as assigned.
