Job summary

EMBL-EBI, Hinxton, United Kingdom, invites applications for the Plant Genomics and Variation Team Leader. You will steer a multidisciplinary team and drive the Ensembl plant and invertebrate resources, plus the EVA, shaping data resources and community standards across worldwide collaborators.

The role reports to the Genome Assembly and Annotation leadership and requires a PhD with extensive experience in plant genomics, variation data handling, and leadership in international consortia.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioinformatics, life sciences, computing or statistics.
• At least 6 years in bioinformatics/genomics for plants.
• Experience with a genomics research community, ideally crops.
• Track record with genetic variation data.
• Experience with big data (GB to TB).
• Knowledge in genome assembly, gene annotation, or genetic variant annotation.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools.
• Project and staff management experience.
• Budget management and grant lifecycle experience.
• Strong scientific/technical writing skills and publications.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead EVA and Ensembl plant and invertebrate resources.
• Oversee budget and staff, and coordinate with EMBL-EBI HR and grants.
• Identify funding opportunities and apply for external grants.
• Represent work at international meetings and publish findings.
• Engage with external collaborators and community standards.
