Job summary

St John Ambulance is seeking a Critical Care Transport Assistant to join a multi-disciplinary team. You will help mobilise a critical care unit, transport patients between hospitals and critical care settings, and participate in hands-on patient care while supporting families.

The role requires a UK driving licence with C1, post‑qualification driving experience and relevant safety/clinical transport certificates. A supportive culture and development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Hold a full UK manual driving licence with C1 category and up to 3 penalty points.
• Possess SJA Critical Care Transport Assistant qualification or obtain during probation.
• Have IHCD D1/D2 or CERAD qualification or obtain during probation.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, stable transport to the clinical team, patient and family during journeys.
• Maintain competence through mandatory learning and CPD during and after probation.
• Check vehicle and equipment are fit for purpose and report defects promptly.
• Work as part of the Critical Care Transport team and support NHS clinical staff.
• Render emergency aid as part of the team or independently when required and support families.
• Complete all documentation for patients, vehicles and equipment timely.
