Job summary

South Wales Police is seeking a Crime Reader/Auditor based at the Public Service Centre in Bridgend to audit and review reported crimes, ensuring accurate data for Home Office reporting. The role involves deciding on reclassification or cancellations according to HOCR and NSIR guidelines.

The successful candidate will apply outcomes, finalise recorded crimes, and work within the Crime Integrity Team, with flexible working and a focus on data integrity and ethical recording.

• Effective decision-making skills.

Salary £27,204 - £32,613 per annum (pro rata)

Duration: Permanent

Hours : 37 hours / 18.5 hours

Working Pattern: Monday to Sunday on a rotational shift pattern of a 10-hour shift duration, including Public Holidays and Critical Dates.

About the team/Department you will be joining:

There are full-time and part-time vacancies and are based at the Public Service Centre, South Wales Police Headquarters, Bridgend. Whilst the organisation supports flexible work, you will be expected to work from HQ regularly.

The Crime Integrity Team ensures that all reported crimes within the force area are recorded correctly, and the appropriate outcome applied, hav ing responsibility for reviewing all crimes reported within South Wales Police, ensuring accuracy and ethical recording, in line with Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR).

About the role and your key responsibilities:

The role of a Crime Reader/Auditor is an interesting and rewarding role, involving auditing and reviewing reported crimes to ensure accurate data is submitted to the Home Office regarding crime figures within the communities of South Wales.

You will be required to review criminal investigations and make decisions in relation to reclassification or cancellation of crimes in accordance with the rules.

You will be required to apply outcomes and finalise recorded crimes, in accordance with Home Office Counting Rules.

What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:

We are keen to hear from you if you have good knowledge of criminal legislation and the application of Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR), the National Crime Recording Standards (NCRS) and National Standard of Incident Recording (NSIR).

You will need to have effective decision-making skills, able to review requests based on knowledge and evidence.

The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to RV Vetting.
