Job summary

The Crematorium and Memorial Group (CMG) at Trent Valley Crematorium in Derby is seeking a Crematorium Assistant to join our team. This 30-hour-per-week role covers all aspects of crematorium operations, from supporting chapel services to grounds maintenance and administrative duties.

We seek compassionate, reliable individuals with a multi-skilled approach who can help families during difficult times while managing bookings, records, and inquiries. Training and development are supported.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathetic communication.
  • Physically fit with ability to perform manual tasks including grounds maintenance.
  • Comfortable using basic IT systems for bookings and administration.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles (hospitality, care, retail, bereavement) preferred.
  • Eager to learn and adaptable to a multi-skilled role.

Responsibilities

  • Support chapel services, including setting up seating, audio/visual equipment, and greeting families.
  • Assist with witness interments or ashes scatterings with sensitivity and respect.
  • Maintain the crematorium grounds and memorial areas, ensuring they are clean and well-presented.
  • Assist families with memorial enquiries, providing compassionate guidance.
  • Manage service bookings, maintain accurate records, and handle invoicing.
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries with professionalism.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, using PPE correctly and reporting hazards.
