Job summary

Elysium Healthcare is hiring a Chef at Wellesley Hospital in Wellington, Somerset. The role is 32.25 hours per week, with duties spanning daily meal preparation, staff and patient catering, and events. You will guide peers, manage menus, and support cost control while ensuring high standards and safe, hygienic operations.

You will join a friendly kitchen team in a purpose-built hospital, with opportunities to influence menu planning and health-focused cooking within a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Be 18 years or older.
• GCSE or equivalent English.
• City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
• Basic Food Hygiene (essential).
• Previous experience in a similar environment.
• Previous experience in delivering a service on mass.
• Menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control and budget experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef for day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation.
• Prepare, plan and cook meals to a consistently high standard, accommodating dietary requests.
• Serve service users, staff and visitors in a professional manner.
• Prepare and produce foods for conferences and banquets.
• Participate in food costings and cost control procedures.
• Adhere to Safer Food Better Business standards and record keeping.
• Follow Food Hygiene Regulations and safety procedures.
• Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation.
• Research and create new menus to ensure high quality and healthy eating.
• File HACCP paperwork including fridge temps, temperature logs and cleaning schedules
