Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution is seeking a Craft Attendant at Gloucester depot to support repair, construction and alteration of assets in a team-based, outdoor environment. The role involves being away from the depot, occasionally out of hours standby, and a full driving licence is desirable. Some electrical exposure is beneficial but training will be provided.

DBS checks may apply. National Grid offers 26 days paid leave plus bank holidays, a contributory pension, an annual share save

Main Responsibilities

• Ensure before commencing work you understand the task/s that you have been instructed to undertake


• Promote and demonstrate a culture of Health Safety & Quality at all times


• Preparation of the work site.


• Erect signs and barriers


• Excavate, lay cable and backfill


• Excavate pole and stay holes


• Fix meter boards, meters and cut-outs


• Make single phase service term in cut out dead


• Make 3 phase service term in cut out dead


• Use mini excavator


• To provide first aid where required in accordance with training


• Maintain tools, equipment, materials and vehicles in a safe condition


• Assist other team members


• Assess the potential impact of a specific work activity on customers


• Minimise the adverse impact of own activities on customers


• Advise customers affected of the impact of own activities


• Resolve customer complaints, wherever possible directly


• Assess site risks, and take action to remove or avoid those risks


• Comply with safety instructions, use protective equipment and wear protective clothing


• Report all accidents and incidents

The Ideal Candidate

The work involves being away from the depot in and around the area, often in a team of two people. The environment requires you to be able to react quickly, decisively and responsibly. You will also need to be flexible in your approach to assist the team in meeting its objectives. The role is suitable for someone who enjoys the demands of a physical outdoor environment.You will need to be mobile throughout the area and you may also be required to undertake out of hours standby duties, therefore a full driving licence is desirable.Some electrical experience would be an advantage, however full training will be given.National Grid Electricity Distribution is committed to safeguarding the interests of the Company, colleagues and customers. This role is subject to a satisfactory Barring Service, (DBS) check, depending on the role different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
