Job summary

New Directions Education Ltd is seeking confident Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Powys. You’ll keep students on track, bring energy to the classroom, and step in when the regular teacher is away.

In addition to routine supervision, there may be opportunities to lead the class and assist Teaching Assistants. Applicants should be reliable, enjoy a challenge and be comfortable with the DBS check requirement.

Qualifications

• Develop curricular knowledge in line with school requirements.
• Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team.
• Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements.
• Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher.
• Administer class tests if requested.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required.
• Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities.
• Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class Teacher.
• Ensure students remain on task through classroom management.
• You will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the class.
• Assisting students where required and ensuring lessons are delivered.
• Collect completed work and pass to the class teacher.

Job Specification

Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.

Ideally, candidates will be required to:

• Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
