Job summary

Educato Limited's partner secondary school in Middleton is seeking a confident Cover Supervisor to lead classes across the secondary age range on a full-time, long-term basis. You will deliver pre-prepared work, manage behaviour, support pupils, and maintain continuity of learning in the absence of the regular teacher.

Hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm. The role offers a competitive daily rate and long-term assignment through the academic year, with DBS checks and safeguarding compliance a requirement

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or young people.
• Experience guiding classroom activities or groups of pupils.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish clear boundaries and build positive relationships.
• Organised, reliable, and adaptable to different subjects and year groups.
• Understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
• Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure pupils understand the tasks set.
• Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Ensure pupils remain engaged, focused, and on task throughout lessons.
• Follow school policies and procedures consistently.
• Provide appropriate support to pupils who require help understanding their work.
• Maintain classroom discipline and establish clear boundaries.
• Report any behavioural concerns or incidents to the appropriate member of staff.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, heads of department, and other support staff.
• Take registers and ensure pupils are accounted for during lessons.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain professional standards of confidentiality and pupil wellbeing.

About the Role

You will supervise classes across the secondary age range, ensuring pupils remain on task and complete the work set by their absent teachers. You will help maintain a positive learning environment, manage classroom behaviour, and support pupils with their learning while following lesson plans and school policies. Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm.

Requirements

• A confident, calm, and professional approach to behaviour management.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to establish clear boundaries and build positive relationships with pupils.
• Organised, reliable, and capable of adapting to different subjects and year groups.
• Confident working independently and using initiative.
• Understanding of safeguarding and the importance of pupil wellbeing.
• Has the right to work in the UK and is available full-time.

Desirable (but not essential)

• Previous experience working as a Cover Supervisor or Teaching Assistant.
• Experience working within a secondary school setting.
• A relevant education, childcare, or teaching support qualification.
• Experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and classroom supervision.
