Job summary

Academics is seeking enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools in Sutton and surrounding boroughs. You will supervise classes, deliver pre-set plans, and help maintain a positive learning environment for all pupils.

This flexible, on-call role is ideal for graduates or teaching assistants aiming to progress into teaching. Daily pay ranges from £100 to £160 depending on experience, with start dates ASAP and opportunities to work across multiple schools.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a school or with young people desirable.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt and take initiative in last-minute situations.
• Hold a valid Enhanced DBS (update service) or willing to apply.

Responsibilities

• Supervising classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff.
• Delivering pre-set lesson plans and managing classroom activities.
• Maintaining a calm and orderly classroom environment.
• Monitoring student behaviour and ensuring school policies are upheld.
• Providing brief feedback to the regular teacher or senior staff at the end of the day.
• Responding to questions where possible and encouraging student participation.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will step into the classroom when the regular teacher is absent. While you won't be expected to teach new material, you will ensure that students stay on task and follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher.

Your main responsibilities will include:
