Job description

Cover Supervisor - 32.60 hours per week, two days 8.15am to 3.10pm and three days of 8.15am to 4.10pm, days to be agreed, term time only (38 weeks). Grade D, Step 1 - Actual Annual Salary of £21,199.24 (which is the equivalent of a full-time salary of £28,696).

As part of our commitment to staff wellbeing RAISE Education Trust is trialling a two week half term break 19th to 30th October 2026. Following this trial, should the Trust revert back to a one-week October half term break from 2027 the contractual working weeks would increase to 39 weeks and the salary would increase accordingly.

Deer Park School is a new, state of the art, seven-form secondary school which opened in September 2021. At present there are just under 1,000 students on roll across Yr7, 8, 9, 10 & 11. We are part of the RAISE Education Trust, which comprises of Deer Park Secondary School, Wildern Secondary School and Boorley Park Primary School. We will have a PAN of 1,050 when full.

As we embark on our next phase of growth, we are seeking to appoint new members to our team to support us on our journey to excellence. We strive to provide an exceptional educational experience for every student. Our values and culture of ambition, excellence, kindness, inclusion and community underpin this vision.

The Cover Supervisor role offers the successful candidates the perfect opportunity to become involved in the learning of young people. This can be a career in itself, or serve as a springboard to a teaching career or other work with young people in the future. We support our cover supervisors’ specialisms about which they are passionate, whilst also providing breadth of experience. The ability to work as a team and learn new skills is more important than previous experience, and full training will be provided.

This would be an ideal opportunity for a candidate looking to move into teaching. Three days a week, the candidate would be involved in leading extra-curricular clubs and attending staff meetings to further support their professional development.

Duties include supporting a mixture of classes during the absence of the regular class teacher, setting the work provided, monitoring/managing behaviour and keeping students on task as well as supporting teachers in the classroom. You will have high standards of expectations, deliver lively and engaging lessons from existing plans, and support students by responding to questions. Although you will not be teaching, ensuring the students stay on task is most important, so good classroom management is essential. In quieter times, you may also be expected to provide classroom and technician support, exam invigilation and general admin support including working with the Senior Administrative Officer in organising pre planned cover timetables.

We will ensure that the successful candidate has:
  • Comprehensive induction including a dedicated mentor.
  • Continuous professional learning, development and improvement.
  • The opportunity to contribute to raising standards for all our students.
Benefits of working for our Trust include:
  • Exceptional team environment where all staff are valued.
  • Excellent Continuing Professional Development with high quality CPD programs.
  • Many opportunities for career progression.
  • RAISE a Hand day: One day per academic year — a fully paid day off to support personal events.
  • Two-week October half term: Providing staff and students with an extended break during the autumn term.
  • Extensive department resources and facilities.
  • A tax efficient Cycle-to-Work scheme through salary sacrifice.
  • Staff membership rates to our modern Leisure Centre at Wildern School.
  • Enrolment in one of the UK’s largest public sector pension schemes.

If you currently work in a school, please ensure one of your references is from your current Headteacher.

Closing Date: Midday, Thursday 17th September 2026.

Disclaimer: due to the high volume of applications we receive, we reserve the right to close a vacancy earlier than the advertised date if we receive applications that meet the criteria. Once a vacancy has closed, we are unable to consider further applications.
