Job description

Aspiring Teacher? Start Your Career as a Cover Supervisor

Are you looking to embark on a career in education? Do you want to try life in the classroom before committing to full teacher training?

Iveshead School is offering a brilliant opportunity for motivated individuals—particularly those considering a future in teaching—to join our team as a Cover Supervisor. This is more than just a "fill-in" role; it is a gateway to a professional career in education.

This is a part-time role for 2 days per week (8.15 am - 3:00 pm Thursday - Friday)

About the Role

We are seeking an organised and confident school Cover Supervisor to lead cover lessons in the absence of teachers. The successful candidate will be confident in supporting students and managing lessons to ensure continuity of learning in the absence of colleagues.

This role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced school environment. Experience of working in a school setting with young people is desirable. We have a strong programme of training and support for our cover supervisors and you will be part of a team, led by our Cover Manager. If you are interested in pursuing a route into the teaching profession, this is an ideal start to gain experience of working in a secondary school.

Contract

Permanent

Part-time: 12.5 hours per week, term-time plus INSET

Hours: 8.15 am - 3:00 pm x 2days per week (Thursday and Friday).

Why Join Us?

Faculty Integration: Unlike traditional cover roles, you will be attached to a specific subject faculty. This allows you to build deep professional relationships and gain subject-specific expertise.

Professional Development: You’ll gain a behind-the-scenes understanding of pedagogy, classroom management, and how students learn.

A Career Launchpad: This role is the perfect way to "try the classroom" and build the confidence needed to eventually move into a formal teaching qualification.

Supportive Environment: You will work under the professional direction of experienced teachers and be part of a team committed to student success.

About Iveshead School

Iveshead is an inclusive 11-19 school in the heart of the Shepshed community with our core values of ‘Respect, Succeed, Enrich’. We have high expectations of our students and are ambitious for each and every one of them. Our mission is clear - we want to ensure that all of our students have an excellent education and experience of school, giving them opportunity and choice beyond Year 11 and Year 13.

Our students are fantastic young people who work hard, enjoy learning and make every day different. We are incredibly lucky that we have a dedicated team of staff: our teachers are subject experts who love teaching their subject. We work together to ensure that we are removing barriers and helping students to flourish. We are a truly inclusive school and are rightly proud of our two specialist provisions.

We have an impressive Sixth Form where we retain students to study a wide range of A Level and vocational courses. Students are successful in gaining places at universities, securing places for competitive apprenticeships and employment opportunities beyond Year 13.

Our school campus is very well resourced; our Sixth Form students study in a brand new Sixth Form Centre which was opened at the beginning of this academic year. We offer a supportive and welcoming environment with respect for all, a dedicated staff and a strong blend of activities which create an enriching and successful education for all students at Iveshead.
