Job description

A Secondary School in Plymouth is currently looking for a Cover Supervisor to join them for flexible cover. The school would ideally like someone to start this term, for a full/part-time opportunity that runs from Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 3.30 pm. The specific days can vary, but there is consistent work to suit the right candidate.

The school regularly needs Cover Supervisors to cover various classes across KS3 and KS4. Cover work will typically be prepared in advance by the Class Teacher, but a good understanding of most subjects would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable to different classes. You must be confident in teaching across KS3 and KS4 and be intuitive, as you'll be taking on pre-planned lessons with ease. Teaching qualifications are not strictly necessary, but extensive experience working in schools is preferred. A degree in a specific subject, such as Maths, would be advantageous.

Responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor include:

• Supervising students actively, providing clear instructions to stay on task, and responding to queries
• Communicating effectively to keep students engaged during cover lessons
• Managing behaviour according to school policies and promoting positive behaviour
• Exhibiting strong organisational and time management skills and being highly flexible in a busy school environment
• Supporting all students with good literacy, numeracy, and communication skills
• Collaborating with staff to maximise student outcomes
• Reporting to teachers as required
