Job summary

The Long Eaton School in Nottingham is seeking a dedicated teaching assistant to supervise students during pre-set activities and support learning across lessons. You will liaise with teachers to understand tasks, manage classroom behavior, and assist with planning and resources.

You will help students develop independence with ICT, maintain records, and be prepared to contribute to after-school and faculty meetings as required. Strong communication and a proactive attitude are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during a pre-set learning activity and support the class teacher.
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, serving as a role model and maintaining high expectations.
  • Liaise with the class teacher on the pre-prepared exercise and resources to aid learning.
  • Record and report attendance in accordance with academy procedures.
  • Explain and respond to students about requirements and tasks to undertake.
  • Answer general questions about the workset and expected behavior.
  • Manage student behaviour to maintain a constructive learning environment and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Provide timely feedback to the class teacher and assist in creating an orderly, productive learning space.
  • Assist with lesson planning, evaluation and adjustment of activities where appropriate.
  • Ensure correct design, preparation and use of specialist equipment and resources as required by staff.
  • Update and maintain records as agreed with teaching staff.
  • Support ICT use in learning activities and develop student ICT competence and independence.
  • Determine and prepare any general or specialist equipment and resources needed.
  • Administer routine tests and invigilate exams/tests.
  • Provide general clerical/administrative support.
  • Provide first aid assistance to staff, students and visitors as necessary.
  • Provide flexibility to attend afterschool meetings, faculty or year group meetings.

Job description

  • Supervise the students working on a pre-set learning activity in theabsence of a teacher.
  • Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as arole model and setting high expectations.
  • Liaise with the designated class teacher to understand what thepre-prepared exercise for the class will be and what resources may be given tostudents to facilitate learning.
  • Record and report attendance at lessons in accordance with Academyprocedures.
  • Explain and respond to students about what is required and whatpre-prepared task/exercise they will be expected to undertake.
  • Answer any general questions the students have in relation to the workset and model expectations to students.
  • Manage behaviour of students to ensure that a constructive learningenvironment is maintained by using a range of strategies to deal with classroombehaviour as a whole, and also individual behavioural needs. This will include meeting and communicatingwith parents as required.
  • Report back to the designated class teacher as appropriate.
  • Work with teaching staff to establish an appropriate learningenvironment which is purposeful, orderly and productive.
  • Assist teaching staff in lesson planning, evaluating and adjustinglessons/work plans as appropriate.
  • Ensure timely and accurate design, preparation and use of specialistequipment/resources/materials as required by teaching staff.
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with teachingstaff.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop students’competence and independence in its use.
  • Determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialistequipment and resources.
