Job summary

Bluecoat Trent Academy is seeking a dedicated Learning Support/Student Supervisor to assist teaching staff and support students across a range of activities. You will supervise learners, liaise with teachers, maintain records, and promote effective use of ICT within library and classroom settings.

In this role you will help plan lessons, manage behaviour, and provide first aid where needed, with flexibility to attend after-school and year group meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students on a pre-set learning activity, including within the Independent Learning Unit.
  • Establish productive relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Liaise with the designated class teacher to understand the pre-prepared exercise and available resources to facilitate learning.
  • Record and report attendance at lessons per Academy procedures.
  • Explain and respond to students about requirements and the pre-prepared task/exercise to undertake.
  • Answer general questions and model expectations for students.
  • Manage student behaviour to maintain a constructive learning environment; engage with parents as required.
  • Report back to the designated class teacher as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to create a productive learning environment.
  • Assist with lesson planning, evaluation and adjustment of lessons/work plans.
  • Ensure timely and accurate design, preparation and use of specialist equipment/resources.
  • Keep records updated as agreed with teaching staff.
  • Support ICT use in learning activities and develop student ICT competence and independence.
  • Determine and maintain the need for general and specialist equipment and resources.
  • Administer routine tests and invigilate exams/tests.
  • Provide general clerical/administrative support.
  • Provide first aid to staff, students and visitors as necessary.
  • Be flexible to attend after-school meetings and year/group meetings.
  • Offer guidance to readers and library users.
  • Guide and support ICT and educational technology use in library areas.
  • Maintain and display newspapers/magazines.
  • Supervise students before school, at breaks and lunchtimes, and after school.
  • Promote and manage after-school clubs.
  • Support with the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
  • Other reasonable tasks as requested.

Job description

  • Record andreport attendance at lessons in accordance with Academy procedures.
  • Explain andrespond to students about what is required and what pre-prepared task/exercisethey will be expected to undertake.
  • Answer anygeneral questions the students have in relation to the work set and modelexpectations to students.
  • Managebehaviour of students to ensure that a constructive learning environment ismaintained by using a range of strategies to deal with classroom behaviour as awhole, and also individual behavioural needs.This will include meeting and communicating with parents as required.
  • Report backto the designated class teacher as appropriate.
  • Work withteaching staff to establish an appropriate learning environment which ispurposeful, orderly and productive.
  • Assistteaching staff in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plansas appropriate.
  • Ensuretimely and accurate design, preparation and use of specialistequipment/resources/materials as required by teaching staff.
  • Beresponsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with teachingstaff.
  • Support theuse of ICT in learning activities and develop students’ competence andindependence in its use.
  • Determinethe need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment andresources.
