Job summary

Archway Learning Trust in Nottingham is seeking a dedicated support colleague to assist with students and teachers, promoting safe, healthy and inclusive learning environments. You will help with care, personal hygiene and developing student independence during the school day.

You will contribute to curriculum support, help with routines, monitor student needs, liaise with parents as appropriate, and participate in safeguarding and welfare duties under SENCo guidance.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and welfare of children.
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups of students.
  • Good communication with parents and carers.

Responsibilities

  • Support and direct activities with students to ensure safety and development.
  • Assist with care, personal hygiene and student wellbeing.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with students and groups.
  • Promote self-esteem and independence among students.
  • Support groups of students during exams and formal assessments.
  • Assist students with homework and organisational tasks during the school day.
  • Support curriculum delivery and ICT use in classroom settings.
  • Monitor student needs and provide feedback to the teacher.
  • Contribute to maintaining safe and effective learning environments.

Job description

SUPPORTFOR THE STUDENT
  • Supportand direct activities with either individuals or groups of students toensure their safety and facilitate their physical, emotional and cognitivedevelopment;
  • Helpwith care, personal hygiene and support of students;
  • Contributeto the health and well-being of students;
  • Establishand maintain good working relationships with individual students andgroups;
  • Promoteand reinforce the students’ self-esteem and independence e.g. support inform time, AoW, unstructured time etc.;
  • Encourageacceptance and inclusion of all students;
  • Tosupport groups of students as directed during formal public or internalschool examinations;
  • Toassist students on work placements, educational visits, residential, andrecreational activities as appropriate;
  • Toassist students with self-organisation and in the completion of homeworktasks, in allocated periods during the school day;
  • Drawingon knowledge of various forms of individual needs, to develop anunderstanding of the specific needs of the students within the schoolcommunity;
  • Toliaise effectively with parents/carers as appropriate;
  • Toassume responsibility for designated keyworker role at School Action Plusand/or a named Statemented child.
SUPPORTFOR THE TEACHER
  • Helpwith the collation of Review/Annual Review meetings;
  • Helpwith classroom resources and records;
  • Toimplement learning programmes a directed by the class teacher – withindividual or small groups;
  • Tomonitor individual student’s needs and provide regular feedback to theteacher;
  • Contributeto the management of student behaviour;
  • Toparticipate in the evaluation of the support programme;
  • Tocontribute to the maintenance and development of the Learning SupportFaculty.
SUPPORTFOR THE CURRICULUM
  • Supportand reinforce the school curriculum including catch up KS3/GCSE work,literacy, numeracy activities in a 1:1 setting and in the classroom;
  • Providesupport for learning activities including enrichment activities during thenormal school day;
  • Supportthe use and development of ICT within the classroom;
  • Supportthe smooth running of the Faculty by covering designated priority lessonsof absent staff as and when required by the SENCo;
  • To takeresponsibility for display and up keep of designated areas in the Faculty.
SUPPORTFOR THE SCHOOL
  • Maintaineffective working relationships with colleagues and parents;
  • Maintainand safeguard the confidential nature of student/teacher/home issues;
  • Contributeto the maintenance of student safety and security, including break andlunchtime duties in the Faculty and taxi duties;
  • AttendFaculty/Pastoral meetings as appropriate.
  • Act asa First Aider after appropriate training
