Job summary

Malcolm Arnold Academy is seeking an excellent Cover Supervisor to join our team. The role supports the culture, ethos and wellbeing of the academy, supervising students during teacher absences and ensuring clear, structured learning by coordinating with leaders.

Permanent, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. NJC8 scale with pro rata salary, access to LGPS, CPD and broader staff benefits.

Qualifications

• A good standard of education, including GCSEs in Maths and English.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students and staff.
• Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time management.
• Knowledge or experience of working with children and young people.
• Ability to motivate and encourage children to meet learning/behaviour targets.
• Strong record of continuous professional and personal development.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students’ work during the absence of their teacher as directed by the Cover Manager.

Job description

We are looking for an excellent Cover Supervisor to join our team at Malcolm Arnold Academy.

The Cover Supervisor plays a vital role in contributing to the culture, ethos, and well-being of the Academy.

Key Responsibilities

• You will, as directed by the Cover Manager supervise students in their work during the absence of their teacher.
• Consult with Subject Leaders and other teaching staff within the team in which there is an absence where possible, to ensure that instructions are clarified.
• Liaise with LSAs regarding individual students being supported in any class being covered.
• Administer clear instructions to the class, based on the detailed work set and actively supervise students as they carry out work.
• Following up on any matters arising from cover lessons such as insufficient or inappropriate work set with the relevant subject leaders.
• Observe and be present in lessons relevant to your cover supervision to allow you to be familiar with the students, work, and approaches.
• Ad-hoc immediate short-term cover in the case of unforeseen circumstances not planned with the Cover Manager.
