Job summary

The Education Network is recruiting for a Cover Supervisor to provide maternity cover at a secondary school in the Durham area. The role is full-time and based on a 8:30am – 4:30pm schedule from Monday to Friday, starting 2nd November 2026 and continuing through to summer 2027.

You will supervise classes in the absence of teaching staff, deliver pre-set work, and support students with learning and behaviour while following school safeguarding policies.

Qualifications

• Experience in a secondary school or similar educational setting.
• Ability to supervise students independently.
• Professional, reliable and positive approach.
• DBS Update Service preferred or willing to apply.

The Education Network is currently recruiting for a Cover Supervisor to provide full-time maternity cover at a secondary school in the Durham area.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cover Supervisor or a confident individual with relevant school-based experience to join a supportive school for a long-term placement, starting 2nd November and continuing through to the summer.

The role will involve

• Supervising classes in the absence of teaching staff.
• Delivering pre-set work and ensuring students remain focused and engaged.
• Maintaining a positive and well-managed classroom environment.
• Supporting students with their learning and behaviour.
• Following school policies and safeguarding procedures.

The successful candidate will ideally have

• Previous experience working in a secondary school or similar educational setting.
• The confidence to supervise students independently.
• A professional, reliable and positive approach.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
