Job summary

Randstad Education in Ipswich is seeking a flexible Secondary Cover Supervisor to oversee classes across Key Stage 3 and 4 during teacher absences. You can choose day-to-day work or fixed-term placements spanning a term or academic year, gaining broad experience across multiple schools in Ipswich and Suffolk.

The role suits graduates, aspiring teachers, coaches, or youth workers with strong interpersonal skills and classroom confidence.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with young people or teenagers (e.g., in schools, youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, or care settings).
• Strong presence, confidence, and natural classroom management abilities.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• A proactive, adaptable attitude with the ability to build quick rapport with secondary pupils.
• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

Responsibilities

• Supervise prepared cover lessons across various subject areas, ensuring students remain focused, on-task, and working productively.
• Manage classroom behaviour effective using the school's established behaviour policies and reward systems.
• Create a safe, positive, and purposeful learning environment where students feel supported.
• Assist students with any general questions regarding the set work and keep them engaged throughout the period.
• Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and pass on clear notes/feedback to the regular class teacher.
