Job description

Secondary Teacher - Ipswich & Surrounding Areas

Are you a secondary subject specialist looking for a teaching role that offers genuine flexibility, strong work-life balance, and fresh classroom variety? Whether you are seeking the complete autonomy of day-to-day supply cover or prefer the stability and continuity of a long-term department placement, we have outstanding opportunities matched directly to your schedule.

We are currently partnering with a diverse group of secondary schools, academies, and high schools in Ipswich and across the wider Suffolk area. We are experiencing high demand for enthusiastic, reliable secondary teachers across all core and foundation subjects - including English, Maths, Science, Humanities, MFL, Creative Arts, and P.E to teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with Key Stage 5 opportunities where applicable).

Whether you are an experienced teacher wanting to step away from full-time administrative pressures, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to build confidence and gain broad experience across different school cultures, we can help you find your ideal role.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Maintain complete control over your diary. Choose the specific days you want to work to suit your lifestyle, family commitments, or personal projects. It is a fantastic way to deliver high-quality cover lessons, experience different secondary environments, and maintain an exceptional work-life balance.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: If you prefer consistency, we offer fixed-term roles spanning a full term or academic year (covering maternity, extended leave, or vacant positions). This allows you to integrate fully into a subject department, deliver your specialist curriculum, mentor students, and track academic growth over time.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging, subject-specific lessons across KS3 and KS4, following established department schemes of work or cover plans.

  • Foster a safe, structured, and purposeful learning environment where students are motivated and held to high academic expectations.

  • Apply effective classroom management strategies and implement individual school behaviour policies consistently.

  • Adapt instruction to meet the varied learning styles, academic abilities, and needs within each class.

  • For long-term roles: take ownership of scheme planning, ongoing assessment, GCSE preparation/marking, and attending departmental meetings.

What We Look For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or a recognised equivalent secondary teaching qualification (instructors with relevant subject degrees and strong secondary experience are also welcomed).

  • Strong subject knowledge across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

  • Confident classroom management skills and the ability to build quick, positive rapport with teenagers.

  • An adaptable, proactive approach to stepping into different secondary environments.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive rates of pay, processed weekly and reflective of your experience and specialist subject knowledge.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep expertise in the secondary education sector in Ipswich and Suffolk.

  • Complete flexibility to manage your availability on your terms.

  • Excellent exposure to local secondary schools, frequently leading to direct, permanent contract offers.
