Job summary

Gatehouse Primary Academy is seeking a confident Cover Supervisor to join our team, delivering high-quality learning experiences across the school. You will supervise whole classes during teacher absence and deliver pre-planned lessons, including PPA cover.

This role is ideal for someone with experience of working with children at whole-class level who wants to develop teaching practice in a supportive environment and progress with us.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join our team, delivering high-quality learning experiences across the school. This role involves supervising whole classes during teacher absence and delivering pre-planned lessons, including PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) cover.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of working with children—particularly at whole-class level—who is looking to develop their teaching practice in a supportive environment. This would be a great stepping stone into teaching- develop your skills, gain classroom experience and grow with us

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver pre-planned lessons to groups and/or whole classes during staff absence or PPA time
2. Ensure a positive and purposeful learning environment is maintained
3. Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
4. Support pupils to engage with learning and complete set work
5. Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupil progress and engagement
6. Be flexible and adaptable across different year groups and subjects

Who We’re Looking For

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who:

1. Have experience with whole-class delivery
2. Are confident managing a classroom independently
3. Have strong communication and behaviour management skills
4. Are enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to supporting pupil learning

This role would also suit individuals who:

1. Are an experienced TA/HLTA who is confident managing a classroom independently.
2. Have completed a teacher training course but do not yet feel ready to take on full class responsibility
3. Are looking to build confidence and experience before moving into a teaching role
