Job description

BOA Group is seeking to appoint a Cover Supervisor, working alongside the wider staff and leaders to provide excellence across the Group. The role will be primarily based at BOA Digital Technologies Academy with travel to other BOA locations as required.

The post holder will provide cover supervision for whole classes when the teacher is absent at Key Stage 4 and Post 16. This role will include supervising personalised learning sessions at Key Stage 4 and supporting learning activities when there is no staff absence, such as running small group interventions and mentoring key students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support for the Learners
  • Establish constructive relationships with learners and interact with them according to their individual needs;
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all learners; encourage interaction and cooperation in activities;
  • Encourage learners to engage with each other and participate in activities set by the teacher;
  • Set challenging expectations and promote self-esteem and independence;
  • Discharge a timetabled teaching commitment when not acting as cover supervisor for classes and small groups;
  • Act as a mentor to key students to improve their academic performance.
Support for the Teachers

Providing cover supervision when the responsible teacher is absent, including:

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment, following lesson plans and displaying learners' work;
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support learners in achieving their goals;
  • Monitor responses to learning activities and record progress as directed;
  • Provide feedback to teachers on learners' achievements and barriers;
  • Promote good behavior, deal promptly with conflicts, and encourage responsibility;
  • Establish de-escalation routines in line with the academy's behavior policy.
Support for the Curriculum
  • Support ICT use in learning activities and develop learners’ competence;
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources and assist learners in their use;
  • Liaise with employer partners, sharing learner data appropriately.
Support for the Academy
  • Support equality and ensure all learners have access to opportunities;
  • Contribute to the ethos, work, and aims of the academy;
  • Support the role of other professionals;
  • Attend relevant meetings;
  • Supervise learners out of lesson times;
  • Participate in visits and out-of-school activities, taking responsibility for groups;
  • Engage in training and performance development;
  • Follow health & safety, safeguarding, security, confidentiality, and data protection policies, reporting concerns;
  • Promote equal opportunities and eliminate discriminatory practices;
  • Act as a role model and provide guidance and support to learners.

The post holder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility from time to time.
