Job summary

Lift Four Dwellings Secondary, part of Lift Schools, in Birmingham, is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to support learning when teachers are absent. You’ll supervise lessons across subjects, deliver pre-prepared materials, manage behaviour and help students stay focused.

This fixed-term role runs 32.5 hours per week, 8:15am–3:15pm, until 31 August 2027. Applicants should have GCSE Maths and English and experience working with children; safeguarding commitment is essential.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated, adaptable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join Lift Four Dwellings Secondary. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to play a vital role in ensuring high-quality learning continues during teacher absences.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be a familiar and trusted adult in our school community, supervising lessons across a range of subjects, maintaining positive behaviour, and supporting students to stay focused and engaged in their learning.

Your new role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring students continue learning in a safe, calm and productive environment.

You will deliver pre-prepared lesson materials, support students’ learning, manage behaviour effectively, and provide feedback to teaching staff following lessons. You will also lead our ‘super cover' provision, when multiple classes require cover alongside a second member of staff.

Key responsibilities include:

Supervising classes across a range of subjects during teacher absences
Delivering lesson materials prepared by teaching staff
Leading super cover alongside a second member of staff
Maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment
Supporting students to stay on task and complete work to the best of their ability
Supporting students with SEND and helping to implement EHCP and IEP targets where appropriate
Recording attendance accurately and reporting any concerns
Providing feedback to teachers regarding student progress, engagement and behaviour
Liaising with pastoral teams regarding student welfare concerns
Supporting wider academy activities, including student supervision and enrichment opportunities

You will work closely with teaching, SEND and pastoral teams to ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive.

What you’ll need to succeed

We are looking for someone who:

Holds GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent qualifications
Has experience working with children and young people
Can build positive and productive relationships with students
Has strong behaviour management and communication skills
Is calm, resilient and adaptable in a fast-paced school environment
Can work effectively as part of a team
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Has excellent organisational skills and can manage competing priorities
