Job summary

Lift Ryde is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to maintain educational continuity when teachers are absent. You will cover classes across subjects, supporting learning and behaviour in a busy secondary setting on the Isle of Wight.

The role requires GCSEs in Maths and English and prior experience with children or young people. You will work within a supportive team, contributing to a calm and productive learning environment.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4 or equivalent).
• Experience working with children or young people is desirable.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Guide lessons using materials prepared by teachers and help students complete work.
• Support students with special educational needs in collaboration with SENDCO and tutors.
• Create a calm, positive learning environment and reinforce classroom routines.
• Collect and feedback on completed work, helping teachers track progress.
• Support students during breaks, ensuring safety and appropriate behaviour.

This is an exciting Cover Supervisor opportunity to join a dynamic team in a strong and supportive environment at Lift Ryde.

Your new school

Lift Ryde, based on the Isle of Wight, is an 11 to 18 years secondary school and is part of Lift Schools, one of the largest MATs in the country. The school is set in spacious grounds and had a completely new state of the art building in 2017. All staff have access to a free on site gym with a range of fantastic equipment. Your new role

The role of the Cover Supervisor is pivotal in maintaining educational continuity within the academy, as a familiar and trusted adult to students. The role will cover classes during both planned and unplanned teacher absences, providing essential support across all subjects, ensuring students' learning progresses uninterrupted. By ensuring the classroom is a calm and focused environment, they contribute significantly to student achievement and advancement.

Key responsibilities

• Guide lessons using materials prepared by teachers, helping students understand tasks and complete work to the best of their ability
• Support students with special educational needs, working closely with the SENDCO and form tutors
• Create a positive learning environment, using strategies like rewards and clear boundaries to help manage behaviour
• Collect completed work and share feedback with teachers on how students got on
• Support students during breaks and lunchtimes, helping them stay safe and behave well

We are looking for someone who

You'll have GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4 or equivalent) and experience working with children or young people. Can you build positive relationships with students and communicate clearly with colleagues and families?

You'll be adaptable, patient and calm under pressure. You'll understand how to manage whole-class behaviour and support individual needs. Can you handle last‑minute changes with flexibility and a sense of care? Do you bring empathy, resilience and a genuine interest in helping students succeed?
