Job summary

Barnsley College is seeking an experienced Course Leader for Society Health & Development to provide day-to-day curriculum leadership across related programmes. You will work with the Programme Manager to maintain high standards of teaching, learning, assessment and quality assurance, while leading course teams and supervising staff.

You will manage attendance, retention and progression, contribute to curriculum development and delivery, and provide effective tutorial support to learners.

Qualifications

• Cert Ed, PGCE or Level 6 Diploma (or working towards)
• Minimum of two years’ relevant work experience
• Knowledge of curriculum review, development and planning strategies
• Ability to devise strategies to improve attendance, retention, achievement and success
• Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to support learning
• Understanding of the pastoral needs of learners
• Knowledge of a range of teaching methodologies
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to support and guide associated staff
• Professional, flexible and organised approach
• Motivational approach to work and timekeeping
• Motivation to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults
• Ability to establish professional relationships and boundaries
• Emotional resilience when challenging behaviours

Responsibilities

• Lead allocated courses and contribute to curriculum review, planning and development
• Teach across a range of programmes, plan schemes of work and undertake assessments
• Provide tutorial support and guidance to learners
• Monitor learner attendance, retention, achievement and progress
• Contribute to enrolment and promotional activities and initial/diagnostic assessments
• Line manage and develop staff associated with the programmes (where applicable)
• Collaborate with Programme Manager to maintain high standards of teaching, learning and quality assurance
