Job summary

Thompsons Solicitors LLP is seeking a seasoned costs professional to manage high-value Personal Injury Multi Track matters. You will prepare budgets, statements, estimates, and formal bills of costs, and negotiate outcomes enhancing terms for the firm and clients.

You will work with PI lawyers and leading Counsel, attend CMCs and Detailed Assessments, and ensure accuracy in all costs documentation with CPR knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Costs Budgets (Precedent H), Statements of Costs (N260s), Estimates, and Formal Bills of Costs.
• Negotiate costs budgets and bills of costs and settle claims for costs on favourable terms.
• Attend Costs CMCs, Detailed Assessment hearings, and application hearings.
• Advise PI lawyers on live claims and provide technical guidance to colleagues.
• Collaborate with Counsel on complex costs matters and manage caseloads.

Job description

• Manage a diverse caseload of high-value costs matters with significant value and wider public importance


• Handle PI Multi Track cases, including Serious Injury, Asbestos, Clinical Negligence, and other high-cost matters


• Prepare Costs Budgets (Precedent H), Statements of Costs for Summary Assessment (N260s), Estimates, and Formal Bills of Costs


• Negotiate costs budgets and bills of costs and settle claims for costs on the best possible terms


• Attend Costs CMCs, Detailed Assessment hearings, and application hearings


• Work closely with PI Lawyers as part of the legal team and advise on live claims


• Liaise and work alongside Junior and Leading Counsel on complex and technical costs matters


• Manage all aspects of an individual caseload in line with department protocols and service standards


• Support colleagues through day-to-day coaching and technical guidance as a “Supervision Buddy”


• Join specialist costs teams within the national structure at Thompsons Solicitors LLP

Requirements

• Experienced Law Costs professional


• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Comfortable using standard IT packages such as Outlook and Word


• Experience of Costs Master beneficial


• Qualified Costs Lawyers preferred


• Applications welcomed from Chartered Legal Executives and Solicitors


• Significant experience in a wide range of high value Multi Track personal injury matters ideally


• Good understanding of the CPR


• Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team
