Job summary

Lincolnshire County Council is recruiting a Coroners Officer for our Grimsby office to support bereaved families across Greater Lincolnshire. You will work with professionals from across the public services to handle each case with care and respect.

The role requires empathy, strong organisation, and the ability to manage caseloads while meeting deadlines. Hybrid working is offered with travel across the county as needed.

Qualifications

• You’re a great communicator, able to explain things clearly and listen with empathy.
• Organised, calm under pressure, and able to manage caseloads by prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
• Confident using record-management systems and able to adapt to learn new systems.
• You don’t need to be an expert in coronial law or medicine—we’ll give you all the support you need.
• You’re resilient, caring, and committed to public service.
• Ability to travel across the county for service needs as you’ll be working across the Greater Lincolnshire area.

Responsibilities

• Supporting bereaved families with empathy and clear information, guiding them through the coronial process.
• Working alongside doctors, police, mortuary staff, pathologists, and funeral directors to gather information and help investigate deaths referred to the Coroner.
• Managing case files, arranging post-mortems, and preparing for inquests—making sure everything meets legislation and is managed sensitively.
• Taking part in our out-of-hours rota, to allow agencies to be provided with the relevant support following a death in the community.
• Helping new team members learn the ropes and sharing your knowledge.
