Job summary

Adecco is recruiting a Controls Engineer in Gateshead to design, develop, and deliver advanced control systems for power generation and distribution. You'll work with design, production, commissioning, and project teams on technically challenging projects, with a strong emphasis on quality and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering.
  • Experience in a Controls, PLC, Systems, or Automation Engineering role.
  • Experience with Rockwell, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms.
  • HMI/SCADA development experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems for power generation and distribution.
  • Program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Configure and integrate control equipment and automation systems.
  • Produce and review technical documentation, including I/O schedules and control philosophies.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Support system integration using Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Carry out testing activities and assist commissioning on-site as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues throughout project delivery.

The Role

As a Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and delivery of innovative control systems. Collaborating closely with design, production, commissioning, and project teams, you will help provide high-quality solutions for a variety of complex engineering applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop control systems for power generation and distribution applications
  • Programme PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Configure and integrate control equipment and automation systems
  • Produce and review technical documentation, including I/O schedules, control philosophies, and functional specifications
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Support system integration using industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP
  • Carry out testing activities and support commissioning on-site when required
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues throughout project delivery
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project completion
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders
What We're Looking For:
  • HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering
  • Previous experience in a Controls, PLC, Systems, or Automation Engineering role
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems within an industrial environment
  • Experience with Rockwell, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms
  • HMI and/or SCADA development experience
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Desirable Experience:
  • Power generation, energy, or power distribution experience
  • Generator control and load management systems
  • Control and protection systems
  • AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar software
  • Previous commissioning experience
  • 18th Edition qualification
