Job summary

Adecco is representing a growing engineering organisation in Gateshead seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and deliver advanced control systems across industrial applications. You will work with design, production, commissioning and project teams to provide high-quality solutions.

The role covers full project lifecycle from concept to testing, with ownership and variety. A strong benefits package and clear progression opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a Controls, PLC, or Automation Engineering position.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems within an industrial environment.
  • Experience with Rockwell, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms.
  • HMI and/or SCADA development experience.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems for power generation and distribution applications.
  • Program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Configure and integrate control equipment and automation systems.
  • Produce and review technical documentation including I/O schedules, control philosophies, and functional specifications.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Support system integration using protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP.
  • Carry out testing activities and support commissioning on-site.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues throughout project delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project completion.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders.

The Role

As a Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of innovative control systems. Working closely with design, production, commissioning, and project teams, you'll help deliver high-quality solutions for a range of complex engineering applications.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience in a Controls, PLC, or Automation Engineering position
  • Strong understanding of electrical control systems within an industrial environment
  • Experience with, Rockwell, Schneider, or similar PLC platforms
